Can You Name Five Women Artists?

Of course, you can! But it’s surprisingly hard for most people. We wanted to highlight one female artist today in honor of Women’s History Month and the National Museum of Women in Arts’ #5WomenArtists campaign. Her name is Lee Krasner. She was...

  • An abstract expressionist painter most known for her relationship to celebrated painter Jackson Pollock. Most people don't know that...

  • Krasner introduced Pollock to many influential artists and critics including Willem de Kooning. She also helped to created the "all-over" technique that influenced Pollock's revolutionary "drip-paintings."

  • She signed her work LK or not at all. Krasner wanted to avoid being defined as a female artist. (Sorry Lee!)

  • As of 2008, Krasner was one of only four women to have had a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.

Guru salutes diversity in all its forms and raises a glass to Krasner and female artists who have come before and after her. Happy Women's History Month!
