The Ten-Year Age Bracket with the Highest Potential to Make Attendance Soar

A long time ago (yesterday) in a galaxy far far away (our galaxy, actually), Know Your Bone--a resource for creative engagement in museums and cultural centers--reported on some findings. The National Awareness, Attitudes and Usage study found that nearly 25% of potential attendees to visitor-serving organizations fall into one, ten-year bracket--ages 25 to 34.

"If organizations do not do a better job of engaging emerging audiences with an interest in visiting, it will continue to be a challenge for visitation to keep pace with population growth." - Know Your Bone

For most cultural institutions this doesn't come as a surprise, yet many struggle to entice this segment of Millennials through their doors. The solution? Speaking to this group in their own language—technology, immersion, and fun.

In fact, a University of Chicago study found that, for young people, the most important need when it comes to museum attendance is making the exhibits more interactive and relevant.

And remember, Millennials aren't the only generation to think this way. As mobile devices become a part of our daily lives, more and more visitors from older and upcoming generations expect an evolved museum experience too.
